DAY 12, TUESDAY Gibb's Farm - Arusha - Amsterdam We drive to Arusha, arriving in time for lunch. Dayrooms are provided until we transfer to the airport for our departing KLM Royal Dutch Airlines international flight. Mt. Meru (dayrooms) B, L DAY 13, WEDNESDAY Amsterdam - United States or Canada We arrive in Amsterdam early this morning where we connect with a flight bound for the United States or Canada. We ask that clients kindly refrain from smoking while in sightseeing vehicles and at meals when dining with other tour participants. LIVINGSTONE SAFARI Seventeen or Twenty Days of Kenya and Tanzania Combined The Livingstone Safari offers an unequalled combination of two African nations, Kenya and Tanzania, for a taste of wild and spectacular Africa at its very best. Begin in Kenya's Amboseli National Park, where towering, snow-capped Mt. Kilimanjaro provides the perfect setting for neck-sparring giraffe or a peacefully grazing herd of elephants. Continuing through spectacular scenery, you reach Serengeti National Park, the most famous park in Africa, renowned for its great wildlife riches. Then travel to another highlight: Kenya's Masai Mara National Reserve. DAY 1, FRIDAY United States or Canada - London Our Livingstone Safari begins as we board our British Airways flight to London this evening. DAY 2, SATURDAY London - Nairobi, Kenya We arrive in London this morning and connect to our flight to Nairobi. Upon our arrival in Nairobi late this evening, we are met and transferred to our hotel Windsor Golf and Country Club DAY 3, SUNDAY Nairobi The morning is at leisure. After lunch and a briefing on our upcoming safari, we enjoy a tour of Nairobi, including a visit to the home of Karen Blixen, now a museum. Windsor Golf and Country Club B, L, D DAY 4, MONDAY Nairobi - Amboseli National Park We set off on safari this morning, driving south towards Amboseli, a park equally famous for its big game and its superb views of snow-capped Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain. As we approach Kilimanjaro, we begin to see our first animals; we spend the afternoon game viewing. Amboseli Serena Lodge B, L, D DAY 5, TUESDAY Amboseli National Park We have a full day of game viewing an the chance to photograph wildebeest, zebra, giraffe and magnificent elephant herds against the spectacular backdrop of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Amboseli Serena Lodge B, L, D DAY 6, WEDNESDAY Amboseli - Arusha, Tanzania - Lake Manyara National Park Today we drive across the border into Tanzania, arriving in Arusha in time for lunch. We then continue on to Lake Manyara National Park, where our lodge overlooks this beautiful lake in the Great Rift Valley. Lake Manyara Hotel B, L, D DAY 7, THURSDAY Lake Manyara National Park This small but rich park supports many birds and animals-particularly lions and elephants who let us drive astonishingly close. In the lake are hippo and many water birds, including ducks, pelicans and flamingoes. After a morning game drive, we visit a local market then, following lunch, we spend the afternoon game viewing. Lake Manyara Hotel B, L, D DAY 8, FRIDAY Lake Manyara - Serengeti National Park This morning we drive into the spectacular country of the Serengeti Plains, arriving at our lodge in time for lunch. An afternoon game drive introduces us to this famed National Park. Serengeti Lodge B, L, D DAY 9, SATURDAY Serengeti National Park We have a full day today to explore Serengeti National Park. Its 5,600 square miles support every type of animal imaginable, including lion, leopard, hyena, cheetah, giraffe and topi-the list is endless. Serengeti Lodge B, L, D DAY 10, SUNDAY Serengeti - Ngorongoro Crater After a morning game drive we head east from the Serengeti, approaching the Ngorongoro Crater by way of Olduvai Gorge, where we stop for a visit to this most famous archaeological site. We then proceed to our lodge, perched on the Crater's rim with spectacular views across the 2,000-foot-deep volcanic caldera. Ngorongoro Crater Lodge B, L, D DAY 11 , MONDAY Ngorongoro Crater Today we take a picnic lunch and spend the whole day in the Crater, one of the most magnificent wildlife arenas in Africa. Ten miles in diameter, its short grass prairies are a perfect haven for animals and we see many species, including lion, elephant, hyena, wildebeest and gazelle and the endangered black rhino. Ngorongoro Crater Lodge B, L, D DAY 12, TUESDAY Ngorongoro Crater - Arusha Leaving the Crater, we drive through the highlands, arriving at Gibb's Farm, set high amongst coffee estates and pretty gardens. Here we have the option of taking a walk to a beautiful waterfall. After lunch we continue on to Arusha and our hotel. Mt. Meru B, L, D DAY 13, WEDNESDAY Arusha - Nairobi - Masai Mara National Reserve Crossing the border back into Kenya, we arrive in Nairobi in time for lunch. This afternoon we fly by twin-engined aircraft to the Masai Mara National Reserve, the finest in Kenya. Our safari camp is situated on the edge of the Mara Plain-a vast expanse of open land with many resident animals. Our late afternoon game drive is followed by an excellent dinner. Kichwa Tembo Safari Camp B, L, D DAYS 14-15, THURSDAY-FRIDAY Masai Mara National Reserve We safari for two full days in this magnificent savannah country, home to Kenya's densest population of game. We need not venture far from our camp to see herds of elephant and giraffe, prides of lion and thousands of plains game such as impala, Grant's an Thomson's gazelles. Kichwa Tembo Safari Camp B, L, D DAY 16, SATURDAY Masai Mara - Nairobi - London Saying kwaberi to our camp staff, we fly back to Nairobi. The rest of the day is at leisure with dayrooms provided for our convenience. This evening we attend a farewell dinner at an elegant, privately owned home in a exclusive area of Nairobi before our evening departure for London on British Airways. Kenya - Nairobi Today we fly back to Nairobi. The afternoon and evening are at leisure. Heathrow Hilton Hotel (dayrooms) DAY 3, MONDAY Nairobi Upon our arrival early this morning, we are met and transferred to our hotel, where we relax before lunch. Following our meal, we are briefed on our upcoming safari. We then tour Nairobi, visiting the National Museum with its superb collection, the Kenyatta Conference Center and the colorful African Market. We return to our hotel with some leisure time before dinner. Windsor Golf and Country Club L, D DAY 4, TUESDAY Nairobi - Amboseli National Park Early this morning we board our twin-engined aircraft for Amboseli National Park, equally famous for its big game and its views of Mt. Kilimanjaro, whose magnificent snowcapped peak soars to 19,342 feet-the highest point in Africa. Our afternoon is spent game viewing. Amboseli Serena Lodge B, L, D DAY 5, WEDNESDAY Amboseli National Park We have a full day game viewing in this area, with Mt. Kilimanjaro dominating the landscape and providing a superb backdrop for all our photographs. Watch for giraffe, elephant, zebra and wildebeest along the salt pan trails. Amboseli Serena Lodge B, L, D DAY 6, THURSDAY Amboseli - Aberdare National Park This morning we board our twin-engined aircraft, flying to Nairobi. We transfer to vehicles and drive northward to Aberdare National Park stopping for lunch at the Aberdare Country Club, dating back to colonial times. After lunch special vehicles transport us to The Ark, set in lush forest 7,500 feet up in the Aberdare National Park. The Ark is "berthed" over a waterhole where elephant, rhino, buffalo, giant forest hog-and possibly the rare bongo antelope come down to drink. Floodlights permit game viewing well into the night. The Ark B, L, D DAY 7, FRIDAY Aberdares - Samburu National Reserve After breakfast we drive to Nanyuki where we board a flight to the semi-desert bush country of the Northern Frontier District. The afternoon is spent game viewing; in addition to elephant, here we can see unique northern species: reticulated giraffe, Grevy's zebra, beisa oryx and the graceful gerenuk. Samburu Serena Lodge B, L, D DAY 8, SATURDAY Samburu National Reserve We spend a full day game viewing in this beautiful and unusual area, watching crocodiles basking on the muddy riverbanks and vervet monkeys frolicking in the late afternoon sun; at night, crocodile can sometimes be seen feeding on the river bank opposite our lodge. Samburu Serena Lodge B, L, D DAY 9, SUNDAY Samburu - Mt. Kenya We awaken to the sounds of the wilderness and, after an early morning game drive and breakfast, we drive to the world renowned Mt. Kenya Safari Club on the foothills of Mt. Kenya. After lunch, we spend a restful afternoon at this beautiful resort with its magnificent gardens. Mt. Kenya Safari Club (suites or cottages) B, L, D DAY 10, MONDAY Mt. Kenya - Masai Mara National Reserve After breakfast, we board our flight across the Great Rift Valley to the rolling savannahs of the magnificent Masai Mara National Reserve. After a late afternoon game drive, we enjoy a delicious dinner. Kichwa Tembo Safari Camp B, L, D DAYS 11- 12, TUESDAY-WEDNESDAY Masai Mara National Reserve We have two full safari days in this reserve-the finest in Kenya. We see herds of elephant and giraffe, prides of lion and thousands of impala, topi, and Grant's and Thomson's gazelles. Kichwa Tembo Safari Camp B, L, D DAY 13, THURSDAY Masai Mara - Nairobi - London We bid "kwaheri" to our camp staff and fly back to Nairobi, arriving in time for lunch. We are then transferred to our hotel on the outskirts of the city. This evening we attend our farewell dinner at an elegant privately owned home in an exclusive area of Nairobi; then we are transferred to the airport to board our British Airways international flight.
